SUMMARY:Sharing our Story: Development of Deeply Rooted Initiative to Address Community Violence Using Abolitionist Principles
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with UIC?s Institute for Health Research and Policy (IHRP).    Our Greater Lawndale Healthy Work (GLHW) Project invites all in the UIC School of Public Health and other interested members of the UIC community and its partners to join us for an important discussion of how we were called into action by our community collaborators to host an event titled Deeply Rooted: Disrupting Community Violence Using Abolitionist Principles. We?ll explore how abolitionist principles ? focused on challenging inequitable systems and advancing justice ? can be applied to public health research, policies and practice in the communities we serve. We will also share how the Deeply Rooted initiative has reaffirmed the importance of listening to community and collective decision making on our Project.
