Rev. Smith was born and raised on the Westside of Chicago in the North Lawndale neighborhood. In addition to his Sunday church duties, Rev. Smith does a lot of work in the community, especially with health and education-related organizations throughout the Westside of Chicago. He is on advisory boards for both Rush University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was also on the Advisory Council for Chicago Community Trust’s door-to-door survey conducted in eleven communities, the largest health survey in Chicago in 2017 and 2018. Much of his community work is dedicated to supporting children and students and highlighting the need for more work in this capacity.
