Museum of Science and Industry workers join AFSCME

Workers at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) have successfully formed their union, known as Museum of Science and Industry Workers United, with AFSCME Council 31. After an aggressive anti-union campaign by museum management, 140 employees in guest experience, guest operations, and education departments received a 75% yes vote. They join workers from many other Chicago-area cultural institutions who have already unionized. They now plan to elect a bargaining committee to negotiate their first contract, focusing on fair wages, safety protocols, career advancement, and addressing issues such as harassment and staffing shortages.
