Unsafe Levels of Silica Dust Exposure at Work

Chicago countertop maker, Florenza Marble & Granite Corp., faces dozens of violations and $1M in penalties for exposing workers to silica levels up to six times greater than permissible limits. Two employees, father and son, are suffering from silicosis, an incurable lung disease, and require a double lung transplant. A third employee has also been treated for unresolved work-related lung disease for more than three years.

This is just one case among rising rates of silicosis and other forms of lung disease for engineered stone work employees. If you or anyone you know fabricates countertops from quartz or engineered stone, you may have been exposed to dangerous levels of silica dust.

SCHEDULE A FREE MEDICAL ASSESSMENT TODAY! UIC Occupational Medicine Clinic and Northwestern Pulmonary Clinic are offering complimentary evaluations that include a physical exam, chest x-ray, and lung function tests to help detect silicosis early.
