At a popular bakery on New York's Upper East Side, undocumented immigrant workers face sub-legal wages, dangerous machinery and abusive managers who will fire them just for calling in sick. Risking deportation and the loss of their livelihood, the workers fight to form their own independent union.
Panel discussion with Raise the Floor Alliance staff and worker center members to follow. Panelists will discuss how worker centers are using deferred action for labor enforcement in their organizing campaigns and supporting immigrant worker organizing locally. Audience members will have a chance to tell their stories.
